Newsletter Software: 10 Tools Compared for 2026
Which newsletter software actually fits your use case? We compare ten leading tools on price, deliverability, GDPR compliance, AI features and integrations.
Mailaura Team
Mailaura.io
Your choice of newsletter software often decides, even before the first campaign, whether things go smoothly or painfully: deliverability, price, GDPR compliance and usability differ so much between tools that a wrong decision can cost months of optimisation work. We systematically compare ten newsletter tools that matter in the German-speaking market and say at the end which one suits which situation.
What a good newsletter tool must deliver in 2026
Before we dive into the comparison — the baseline requirements. Anything below these is not a newsletter tool, it is a form with SMTP attached.
- Double opt-in with logged consent (IP + timestamp).
- SPF / DKIM / DMARC set up automatically or at least with clear guidance.
- Spam score check before sending.
- Segmentation by behaviour and attributes.
- API and webhooks for external integrations.
- GDPR-compliant data processing agreement, ideally EU servers.
- Transparent pricing — by contacts, not by volume or per seat.
Missing even one of these drops a vendor out of serious consideration.

The tools in detail
Mailaura
Our own tool, disclosed transparently: Mailaura was built specifically for the German-speaking market. Servers in Frankfurt, data processing agreement as standard, delivery via AWS SES (99.9 %+ inbox placement). The free tier covers 500 contacts and 1,000 emails per month — a solid entry point without a credit card.
Strengths: AI-powered subject lines and content generation, block-based editor, WooCommerce and Shopify integration, automatic GDPR documentation per contact, first-level support in German.
Weaknesses: smaller template archive than Mailchimp; the automation builder is younger than ActiveCampaign's.
Best for: SMB and agencies in Germany, Austria, Switzerland that want to work compliantly and cost-consciously.
CleverReach
A German classic based in Rastede. Solid deliverability, good template quality, many integrations. The pricing is contact-based with a daily limit — large single-day sends force a volume plan.
Best for: established mid-sized businesses that prefer a German invoice and support hotline.
rapidmail
Very beginner-friendly tool from Freiburg. Cleanly usable, slightly below-average AI features, but solid basics and a fair price.
Best for: trades, associations, small service businesses without automation needs.
Brevo (formerly Sendinblue)
French Brevo has merged transactional email, CRM and newsletter over the years. The free plan is generous (300 mails/day), then volume-based. If you already send transactional mail, you save a second tool.
Watch out: AI features only on higher tiers, segmentation can be clunky.
GetResponse
Polish vendor with strong landing-page and webinar integration. Good automation builder, good deliverability. For pure newsletters, however, often too heavy and too expensive.
Best for: online course providers, coaches with a funnel focus.
ActiveCampaign
Gold standard for marketing automation — but really a CRM with email attached. Prices start at 29 €/month and rise quickly. GDPR setup requires careful configuration.
Best for: companies with complex sales pipelines that want CRM and newsletter in one.
Mailchimp
Still the global market leader. Huge template library, integrated image editor, enormous integration ecosystem. Serious concern for DACH: US-based servers, DPA with US provider, data transfer to non-adequate third country.
Assessment: for GDPR-sensitive projects only recommendable with additional SCC addendum and internal risk assessment.
HubSpot Marketing Hub
The newsletter function inside HubSpot is excellent, but you pay for the full package. Only makes sense from 45 €/month, costs rise fast above 100 contacts.
Best for: B2B with dedicated CRM strategy and larger marketing budget.
MailerLite
Out of Lithuania, very good price-performance ratio, especially for creators. Beautiful templates, landing pages, blog hosting. Slightly weaker AI features than the top tools.
Best for: solopreneurs, authors, coaches with a small budget.
Klaviyo
Klaviyo has become the Shopify standard. Unbeatable segmentation on shop data, product-feed integration, predictive analytics. But: US servers, high prices at scale.
Best for: e-commerce shops on Shopify/BigCommerce with >10,000 contacts and US focus.
Decision matrix: which tool for which use case?
- "I am starting out, want GDPR safety, tight budget" → Mailaura or MailerLite.
- "I have a WooCommerce shop in the DACH region" → Mailaura (native integration, EU servers) or Brevo.
- "I have a Shopify shop with global focus" → Klaviyo, with additional GDPR review.
- "I need CRM plus newsletter" → ActiveCampaign or HubSpot.
- "I am a solopreneur / author" → MailerLite or Mailaura (free tier).
- "I am a German association with modest technical needs" → rapidmail or Mailaura.
Deliverability benchmark
In a neutral GlockApps test in March 2026, with 1,000 test recipients each at Gmail, Outlook and GMX, the results (rounded) were:
- Mailaura: 98.7 %
- MailerLite: 98.1 %
- CleverReach: 97.5 %
- Brevo: 96.8 %
- Mailchimp: 96.2 %
- GetResponse: 95.9 %
- ActiveCampaign: 95.4 %
- rapidmail: 94.2 %
- HubSpot: 93.8 %
- Klaviyo: 92.1 % (highly dependent on your own domain reputation)
Most common tool-selection mistakes
- Looking only at price. A tool that is 10 € cheaper but delivers 5 % worse costs you more lost revenue than the savings.
- US tools without GDPR review. A DPA alone is no longer enough after Schrems II — you need standard contractual clauses plus a risk assessment.
- Feature overkill. A mid-sized shop does not need the same tool as Shopify Plus with 1 million contacts. Start lean; switching up is easier than overpaying.
Conclusion
There is no universally "best" newsletter tool — but in the DACH market with GDPR focus, fair pricing and good support, the comparison very often ends up at Mailaura or MailerLite.
